About-Face is a San Francisco based nonprofit, dedicated to equip women and girls with the tools to understand and resist harmful media messages that affect self-esteem and body image. About-Face promotes positive self-esteem in girls and women of all ages, sizes, races, and backgrounds through a spirited approach to media education, outreach, and activism. Media literacy workshops are offered for high school students throughout the Bay Area on how media messages influence self-worth. About-Face engages in Take Action activities to challenge relationships with weight, body image, and media messages. Girls and women are encouraged to develop and execute their own actions and to make changes in their communities. Take Action activities inspire critical thinking and self satisfaction. The About-Face vision is to imbue girls and women with the power to free themselves from the burden of body-image problems so they will be capable of fulfilling their varied and wondrous potentials.
