Almost Home was featured in the inaugural season of ITVS’s landmark Community Cinema program, which produced public screenings in 11 markets during November and December 2005. All screenings were conducted between 10 and 60 days prior to the film’s scheduled national broadcast on Independent Lens and focused on care for the elderly, caregiver issues, nursing homes, and other related social issues. Almost Home screenings welcomed more than 600 community members to 11 events, and included special guest speakers and panel discussions with local experts. ITVS produced discussion guides to support the screenings and to be used by viewers at home; more than 9,000 were downloaded or distributed. More than 50 community-based and national organizations partnered with ITVS to engage audiences around the film. In addition, a special Capitol Hill screening event was produced, with sponsorship from the Senate Select Committee on Aging, including remarks from Senators Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.) and Ken Salazar (D-Colo.). More than 50 congressional staffers and other policymakers attended.
