D Tour was featured in ITVS’ landmark Community Cinema program, producing community outreach screenings in 57 markets during September 2009. All screenings were conducted between 10-60 days prior to the film’s scheduled national broadcast on Independent Lens and focused on organ donation, organ transplant, living with and overcoming physical challenges, and related issues. D Tour screenings welcomed more than 2,500 community members to over 60 events, which included special guest speakers and panel discussions with local experts. ITVS produced companion discussion guides to support the screenings and for use by viewers at home; more than 10,000 were downloaded or distributed. More than 200 community-based and national organizations partnered with ITVS to engage audiences around this timely and impactful film. Among the many activities at D Tour screenings, participants were invited to consider organ donation as a personal option; more than 75 participants registered to become organ donors at screenings.
