History of ITVS
For years, independent filmmakers and their allies fought to create a space in public television where diversity could thrive. Congress had established an independent production service to ensure Americans would see stories and hear voices that are critical to a healthy democracy.
In 1991, ITVS opened its first office in St. Paul, Minnesota. In the last two decades, it has worked with filmmakers, public television, and community partners to bring 1,000 programs to life, to viewers, and into communities.
