San Francisco-based filmmaker David Yanofsky has recently completed his first feature film entitled POETIC LICENSE, a one hour documentary airing on public television. He spent two years on the project, guiding it through all stages of production. In addition, Yanofsky is currently at work on creating a comprehensive multimedia curriculum packet that will accompany the film and be used in the nation's classrooms and after school programs

Before moving back to the US in 1998 to begin work on POETIC LICENSE, Yanofsky lived and worked in Budapest, Hungary. There, he produced and directed two short documentary films, KOPS' KIDS (22 min) and ZEITGEIST (28 min). Those films document the powerful effect that drama has had on a handful of students from the Gandhi School, the only secondary school in Europe for Gypsies. Both of the films have been used extensively in Europe by various human rights and Roma organizations.

Yanofsky formed NewVoices Media, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating dynamic educational content for K-12 students. Seeking to marry the established technologies (video and text) with the emerging ones (the web and interactive learning), POETIC LICENSE and the accompanying curriculum packet is the 'pilot' model for this type of content.

Yanofsky is currently the Executive Director of Just Think, a nonprofit organization that works with youth around issues of media literacy and media production..
