WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE: The Rise of The Religious Right in America, 1950-1994

From the "Christian anti-Communism" of the '50s to the sophisticated politics of the Christian Coalition today, evangelical Christians have slowly but steadily re-shaped the context of mainstream American politics and culture. Using rare archival footage and candid interviews, WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE chronicles the conservative Christian political movement.
Note: The filmmakers have recently released a new project with a similar title. "With God On Our Side: George W. Bush and the Rise of the Religious Right" is not an ITVS-funded film. For more information, please contact First Run Icarus Films at frif.com.
Co-presentation of South Carolina ETV
Premiere: PBS, 9/27/1996 at 9 PM
"It is one of the most stunning, bound-to-be controversial things ever done by [PBS], and it could not be more timely...The American dream has always been that politics and religion could work together. If it does nothing else, this marvelous series indicates to what extent that dream remains a dream."
- Commonwealth
"WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE does not take sides."
- Jewish Exponent
"Thoughtful and thought-provoking...These are six hours of television that captivate, exasperate and anger. The filmmakers wisely let their subjects dominate the offered forum."
- Variety
