When the Ku Klux Klan comes to rural Clarendon County, South Carolina, in 1994, it seems unthinkable to many townspeople that history could repeat itself. But when two young men burn down two historic Black churches, the community is forced to confront the true state of race relations in the post-Civil Rights South. FORGOTTEN FIRES follows the often surprising turn of events through the eyes of Klan members past and present, church pastors, and citizens young and old--while weaving a compelling narrative of faith facing down evil, the seductiveness of hatred, and the power of reconciliation.
