Thank-you for this wonderful film. It is a beautiful and respectful reminder of what family is all about. It allows us to do what we know in our hearts needs to be done.

I would like to get in touch with the filmmaker Elizabeth Westrate. Being a distant relative from the Netherlands and surfing (for fun) across the Internet for "relatives" in the USA, I came across her name and read about her intriguing documentary about the "funeral industry" in the United States. I would be very grateful to get in touch with Elizabeth. Undoubtely we have a common ancestor, as one of them emigrated from the Netherlands (Zeeland) about 1900. The Westrates from the USA dropped the extra "ST"in their name, difficult as it was to pronounce the name in America I guess.I apologize for this peculiar way of getting in touch with Elizabeth. Kind regards, Janet Weststrate. e-mail janetwest@zeelandnet.nl

Aloha Elizabeth, you produced an insightful, thoughtful piece on funerals. So many families here, practically go bankrupt making a last testimonial which has less to do with the dead and more to do with a family's standing in the community or culture (or at least a show of it). For me, the more moving funerals have happened at sea where loved one's ashes were spread out on the waves -- all of us in outrigger canoes dropping leis into the water.

Riveting. . .provocative. . .an eye-opener for us. Resonated with some of our own feelings and questions about the way death is handled in our society. Home funerals seems so much more humane than the gruesome funeral home approach, and we would like to know more about how they are done. Is the film airing again? We'd like for other people to see it. It was excellent!

This is a very beautiful, insightful and exceptionally well done film. The subject is on many of our minds, and the time is now for us to bring the transformative power of death and grieving back into our lives.

Everyone deals with death at one time or another. We need to know more about this. Other ways to look at death. Other peoples way of legally getting rid of the costly funeral homes. The plots are getting full. Thanks for having something like this on P.B.S.

My husband and I have always felt that it shouldn't cost more to bury someone than it did to live. Burying thousands of dollars underground (in steel and concrete) is such a waste when the remaining family members could put those funds to much better use. Thank you for this program. We were excited to see the article in "Mother Earth News" magazine and are looking forward to viewing your show.
