Outreach Strategist

SAN FRANCISCO - Develop, inform, and execute outreach strategies that maximize the impact of ITVS film content within thematic content initiatives serving the public interest.

ABOUT THE ROLE: The role is an exciting new position that will help ITVS bring forward documentary film content centering on the criminal justice system. The role will develop, inform, and/or execute outreach strategies that maximize the impact of ITVS film content in service of the public interest. Bring your research, analysis, and organizing skills to leverage fresh, original film as a convener and catalyst for civic dialogue.


ITVS is seeking a dynamic partnership management, coalition-building strategist to join its growing efforts to uplift the visibility and impact of either single or multi-film, multi-year thematic content initiatives encompassing long- and short-form documentaries, community engagement strategies, and an emerging monitoring and evaluation framework.


Play a leading role in ITVS’s efforts to build critical national and local partnerships with policy influencers, professional associations, companies, and community organizations that extend the dialogue-inspiring abilities of ITVS films and position ITVS as a leader in presenting topical and impactful documentaries to the public by:

  • Researching prospective partner organizations and leading influencers in social movements
  • Producing research products on pressing public policy issues that will inform ITVS’s focus areas
  • Executing on outreach efforts to partners and leaders
  • Working with the public media ecosystem to understand community needs
  • Playing a supporting role in developing data-driven evaluation strategies (i.e. DocSCALE tool), focusing on both organizational and community level impact
  • Drafting content for public consumption on ITVS partnership efforts (i.e. blog posts, social media copy, etc.)
  • Assisting in providing coaching, training, and updates to community partners on progress and direction


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in community-based organizing, with a focus on building partnerships and implementing outreach and engagement initiatives
  • Strong interest in or academic education in domestic policy and politics, especially criminal justice issues
  • High attention to detail, organized, flexible, able to meet deadlines, and adapt to new and changing responsibilities
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program and staff management
  • Proactive and self-motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, multi-task, and think strategically
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with strong facilitation and polished presentation skills
  • Advance skills with project management tools and other software including FileMaker, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience with WordPress, MailChimp, webinar platforms (Any Meeting, GoTo Meeting, etc.), and/or WorkFront is a plus
  • Interest and/or knowledge in independent films, documentaries, community engagement, broadcast television, and/or event planning a plus
