Seasonal Communications Coordinator

Assist ITVS' Communications & Publicity teams in developing creative strategies to expand audiences for Independent Lens programs


ITVS is looking for a Seasonal Communications Coordinator to support the planning and development of series and specials as it relates to media, public television stations teams, filmmakers and ultimately, general audiences and constituents. Included in this role, oversight responsibility for publicity strategy (TCA Press Tour, PBS Annual Meeting, Sundance Film Festival, special screenings, and events). The Communications Coordinator will work to help develop impactful and streamlined messaging on a national and regional level. 

You’ll be partnering with internal teams to build creative strategies for our Emmy® Award-winning series Independent Lens as well as some ITVS funded films and projects. This candidate will have interest and the desire to learn media, publicity and entertainment promotion. 


  • Research for press releases, corporate marketing materials, newsletters (editing & writing) and other organizational collateral

  • Manage delivery of content to databases, PBS Pressroom, ITVS Pressroom, and PBS stations intranets (MyPBS)

  • Manage incoming media requests with the Communications Manager to capture and track relationships with journalists and media outlets

  • Schedule and maintain agendas with outside PR Agency handling Independent Lens and other publicity consultants 

  • Coordinate the process with new filmmakers as it relates to public relations strategy

  • Work with outside agency and internal marketing, identify best clips and stills from each film and identify possible media partners for exclusive placements 

  • Build upon and manage social media influencer database to help with broadcast tune-in and awareness for Independent Lens 

  • Oversee talent coordination for Independent Lens press appearances

  • Manage and track awards calendar and submissions with Communications Manager to meet deadlines and requirements

  • Solicit screeners and materials for programs to support internal and external stakeholders during promotional development

  • Analyze publicity campaign metrics and results 

  • Create and archive past promotional campaigns

  • Apply ITVS values to Audience Development Department culture


  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience in an office environment 

  • Interest in communication, promotion and publicity concepts, creative development processes

  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Social media acumen a must
