For Press Inquiries:
A sampling of coverage from The New York Times, NPR and more

New York Times: With a Voice and a Spirit, Triumphing Over Racism Barbara Smith Conrad, a black child of the segregated South, did not seek to vote or to ride in the front of the bus. She just wanted to sing. NPR’s The Story: When I Rise Tonight, PBS is broadcasting a documentary film, When I Rise, about the extraordinary life of Barbara Smith Conrad. Barbara is a gifted black mezzo-soprano who, as a music student at the University of Texas, found herself in a civil rights storm when she was cast in a leading role opposite a white student.
Tavis Smiley Blog: The Amazing World of Marwencol With echoes of another great outsider art doc, In the Realms of the Unreal, Marwencol is about art, but also about what motivates the artist, and in this case the circumstances are highly unusual. Marwencol is now playing in select cinemas. It will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray April 12 and will be broadcast on PBS' Independent Lens April 26.
OutFront Magazine: William S. Burroughs: A Man Within William S. Burroughs might not be a household name, but those who are familiar with the Beat Generation – or who want to become more familiar with the rebellious queer men who influenced generations of poets, writers and musicians – will want to tune in to Rocky Mountain PBS Channel 6 on February 12 when the PBS series Independent Lens premieres William S. Burroughs: A Man Within.
