Family Portrait in Black and White, Sunday on Global Voices

Posted on October 12, 2012

This week, Global Voices brings you Family Portrait in Black and White by filmmaker Julia Ivanova. The documentary airs Sunday, October 14 on the WORLD Channel.

Olga Nenya, from a small Ukrainian town, is raising 16 black orphans in a country of Slavic blue-eyed blondes. The reality of growing up as a bi-racial child in Eastern Europe — a rare and truly visible minority — is not for the faint of heart. These children always have to be on guard against the world that surrounds them. Family Portrait in Black and White will premiere as part of the Global Voices series on the WORLD Channel, Sunday, October 14 at 10 p.m. (check local listings). Starting October 15, the documentary will be available to view in entirety online via PBS Video (for a limited time only).
