ITVS Presents a Social Screening of The Interrupters
ITVS presents an online social screening of Steve James’ The Interrupters on Thursday, May 31 at 11AM PT / 2PM ET.
From acclaimed producer-director Steve James (Hoop Dreams) and best-selling author-turned-producer Alex Kotlowitz (There Are No Children Here), The Interrupters tells the stories of three "violence interrupters" who, with bravado, humility, and even humor, try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they themselves once employed. Join us for the first hour of The Interrupters with a real time panel of special guests, who will be taking part in the screening to talk about the themes of the film and take your questions live. You may continue to watch the The Interrupters after the panel ends here.
Panelists to include:
- Reginald Dwayne Betts, author, A Question of Freedom: A Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age in Prison (NAACP Image Award winner), White House appointee to Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
- Fidel Rodriguez, Senior Human Relations Consultant and Racialized Gang Violence Prevention Specialist for the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations
- L. Anton Seals, Jr., Public Engagement Specialist for The Interrupters, Kartemquin Films
- Michon Boston, ITVS National Engagement Consultant (Moderator)
Participants can join for free by signing in with Facebook or directly on the site, interacting with other viewers and panelists in real-time, while watching the film. Viewers can comment, ask questions, take polls, and even express their feelings about what they’re watching through a variety of tools on the site. This is an entirely new way of experiencing documentary films and it is inherently social.
