Kara Oehler is the Executive Director of Media and Place Productions and the co-creator of Mapping Main Street — a collaborative documentary media project that creates a new map of the country through stories, photos, and videos recorded on actual Main Streets. The goal is to document all of the more than 10,000 streets named Main in the United States.

Mapping Main Street, which has aired on NPR’s Morning Edition, has become a widely used resource for students, educators, and for collecting various forms of user-generated content. A Peabody Award-winning radio producer, Oehler has a penchant for telling stoires in a cost-efficient and wide-reaching way. During a break between sessions at this year’s NCMR in Boston, she offered up the necessary ingredients for making a collaborative documentary project.
