The Film

True to the Game dramatizes the story of a teenage African American girl torn between her life as a drug and gun dealer on the streets of New York City and her desire to become a writer. The fictional story, written by 16-year-old high school student Tawana Thompson and shot in documentary style, is framed by actual accounts of teens living in the inner city, capturing the sense of despair and futility in a culture of violence and drugs.
