ITVS’ Steve Goldbloom reports from the National Conference for Media Reform in Boston.

Kara Oehler is the Executive Director of Media and Place Productions and the co-creator of Mapping Main Street — a collaborative documentary media project that creates a new map of the country through stories, photos, and videos recorded on actual Main Streets. Mapping Main Street, which has aired on NPR’s Morning Edition, has become a widely used resource for students, educators, and for collecting various forms of user-generated content. A Peabody Award-winning radio producer, Oehler has a penchant for telling stoires in a cost-efficient and wide-reaching way. During a break between sessions at this year’s NCMR in Boston, she offered up the necessary ingredients for making a collaborative documentary project. All independent producers looking to engage audiences differently, this one’s for you…
