Craft In America

Carol Sauvion is the creator and co-executive producer of Craft in America, a three-part documentary series celebrating American craft and the artists who bring it to life. Motivated by a desire to make craft more accessible to the general public, Sauvion, with the help of generous contributors, formed Craft in America, a 501 c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting the history, practitioners, and techniques of craft in the United States and its impact on our nation’s cultural heritage. The centerpiece of the Craft in America effort is the production of a nationally broadcast documentary series celebrating American craft and the artists who bring it to life. For the past 25 years Sauvion has been the director of Freehand, a Los Angeles gallery specializing in functional craft, including ceramics, glass, wood, jewelry, and fiber. She believes that being surrounded by the handmade is one of the great pleasures of life and that the use of handmade objects united the user with the continuum of human culture.
