When a teacher flees with her son from apartheid South Africa to an isolated school in Zimbabwe, they find a hostile and conservative village unwilling to accept two outsiders. Faced with sexual threats from the school headmaster, she finds herself jobless and defeated until the simple generosity of a stranger gives her new life. Inspired by the writings of African author Bessie Head, Riches tells the story of an independent woman searching for strength and identity in a barren landscape.
